Using the most accurate, forgery-proof, durable and reliable method, Ostling lasers can mark and engrave metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, silicon and organic materials with a high-precision laser beam.

Laser marking covers a range of surface treatment techniques: engraving, ablation, tempering, discolouration and foaming.

Due to their extremely compact and flexible design, Ostling laser etching systems are ideal for automated marking projects such as production lines, robot cells etc.

All your design needs are met with our corresponding laser software ‘XS Designer’. With its easy to use and very flexible user interface, there are almost no limits to your creative ideas and marking possibilities, and our laser marking systems are also ideally suited for automated designs such as serial numbers, 2D codes (DataMatrix) etc.

Typical Applications

The following marking types are possible with OSTLING laser marking:

Laser Engraving:
A groove is etched in the component with a laser beam. The material vaporizes or melts in this process. The marking depth can be up to 50 µm.

Material abrasion:
This is a special form of engraving. In the case of aluminium, an anodic coating, for example, can be removed in order to reveal the differently coloured layer beneath it.

Annealing colours:
Here the heat of the laser beam and the atmospheric oxygen change the colour of the metal. There is no significant material abrasion. The laser beam penetrates max. 5 µm into the metal.

Colour changes:
Marking by changing the colour can be performed with most plastics and some lacquers. Special additives ensure a high contrast colour change at the place where the laser beam makes contact.

Foaming:
Due to the heat of the laser beam, the plastic is thermally disintegrated at the laser beam’s point of impact. This results in gaseous decomposition and causes the plastic to foam.
