During the dot peen process, material is marked with a carbide tipped tool (needle) that oscillates through compressed air application and moves in an X and Y direction during its upward and downward movements. This results in a dense sequence of individual dots (writing) being punched into the material. The carbide tip hits the material shortly before its lower reversal point, which compresses or displaces material in the component’s surface, creating a dot or a point. Depending on the needle frequency, the points can form a dotted line or a complete, closed line.
During dot peen marking, depths of up to 0.7mm can be achieved. The distance between the carbide tip and the surface to be marked is up to 10mm and, because the carbide tip oscillates, the marker can compensate for up to 6mm of distortion on an uneven surface. This means that your markings can still be read after powder coating or painting.
The needle is fixed in the marking head. The marking head has 2 linear axes as standard, which are driven by toothed belts. Our PinMark machines vary by the size of marking field the marking heads are capable of.
